About the role
Role Overview
Senior Engineering Manager for the Enterprise Fulfillment engineering team at Instacart, leading the systems that power retailer fulfillment and the shopper app experience. You’ll own the team’s technical direction, ensuring stability, scalability, and extensibility while driving enterprise-grade engineering quality.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the team’s technical vision and strategy, aligning with broader product strategy and company bets.
- Own the engineering roadmap and enable high-quality execution of business outcomes.
- Make technical and product decisions that keep delivery fast without compromising reliability or scale.
- Establish and champion best practices for production services, maintaining an enterprise standard.
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of 10+ engineers, fostering ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Drive recruiting and hiring to attract top engineering talent; partner across an organization of ~50 engineers and with cross-functional stakeholders (including retailer leadership when needed).
Requirements
- 10+ years professional software engineering experience.
- 5+ years engineering management experience, with a track record leading teams of 15+ engineers.
- Experience delivering complex consumer-facing and/or enterprise-facing products.
- Proven ability to craft and execute strategic engineering roadmaps aligned to business objectives and translate product strategy into technical direction.
