About the role

Role Overview

As a Senior Engineering Manager at Cloudera, you will lead a team building Apache Ozone and Apache HDFS, core components of the Cloudera Data Platform.

Key Missions

Own and execute the team’s technical roadmap and strategy, aligning with department vision and business goals.
Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
Drive best practices across the software development lifecycle, including:
- coding standards
- testing
- deployment
- system scalability, reliability, and security
Partner with customers and teams to support successful adoption of Ozone and provide technical guidance for enterprise customers.

Requirements

Experience managing remote or hybrid engineers.
Contributed to or led large-scale open-source projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (public technical writing is a plus).
Strong storage fundamentals knowledge, including:
- consistency
- replication
- erasure coding
- caching
8+ years software engineering experience, including 2+ years in an engineering management role.
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and operating large-scale distributed systems (storage/file systems/databases/cloud infrastructure).
Familiarity with the Apache Hadoop ecosystem (e.g., HDFS, YARN, Hive, Impala, Spark) or related distributed data frameworks.
Experience with distributed storage technologies such as Ceph, Gluster, ZFS, or S3-compatible systems.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering or related field.
