Senior Engineering Manager (Cloud Platform)

Role Overview

Join Horizon3 as a Senior Engineering Manager (Cloud Platform) to lead the infrastructure platform team. You’ll build platform capabilities for product teams, establish an SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) function, and manage a growing group of infrastructure engineers in a remote and inclusive environment.

Key Missions

• Lead infrastructure platform delivery for product development teams, including self-service environments and platform/infrastructure capabilities.
• Establish and grow an SRE function: define and drive investments in operational excellence to ensure services meet customer expectations.
• Manage and develop engineers: recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing infrastructure engineers and engineering managers.

Responsibilities (What You’ll Drive)

• Build capabilities that enable application teams while balancing developer productivity, maintainability, and security.
• Lead engineering rigor through coaching, design reviews, and structured feedback.
• Translate business and product requirements into technical and engineering deliverables.
• Maintain and prioritize a roadmap of strategic initiatives while balancing capacity against developer support and operational requests.
• Promote a design-before-build culture and incorporate operational lifecycle/impact into infrastructure architecture decisions.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of security best practices, including:
  • Zero Trust architecture
  • Secrets management
  • IAM (Identity and Access Management)
  • Software supply chain security
• Proven experience hiring, developing, and retaining high-performing engineers and engineering managers in remote/distributed environments.
• Track record of driving engineering rigor (e.g., design reviews, feedback loops) and mentoring engineers from ICs to system-level thinkers.
• Experience managing production Kubernetes environments at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to operate SaaS service infrastructure with teams.
• Strong communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong infrastructure leadership for self-service infrastructure platforms.
• Experience with architecture/design practices such as RFCs and architecture decision records.

Preferred / Technical Depth

• Infrastructure as Code expertise, especially Terraform
• Experience with Crossplane and GitOps (strongly preferred)
• Experience leading/building SRE functions, including:
  • Incident management
  • On-call programs
  • SLO/SLA definition
  • Operational runbooks
• Strong hands-on observability expertise (e.g., logs/traces, golden signals, service-specific metrics)
• Hands-on production deployment/operations on public cloud:
  • AWS strongly preferred (Azure/GCP familiarity a plus)
