Senior Engineering Manager (Cash Line)

Role Overview

Upstart is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager (Cash Line) to lead a ~10-person engineering team responsible for scaling the Cash Line product and its platform capabilities. The role focuses on improving delivery quality and predictability through execution frameworks and operating rhythms, while driving cross-functional alignment and an inclusive engineering culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop an engineering team (~10 engineers) scaling Cash Line product and platform capabilities
• Establish execution frameworks, operating rhythms, and prioritization systems to improve delivery quality/predictability
• Drive cross-functional alignment with Engineering, Product, Design, and leadership stakeholders
• Partner with teams to deliver high-impact customer experiences
• Balance technical execution with stakeholder management and team development

Requirements

• Experience managing and developing software engineering teams delivering customer-facing products or platforms
• Experience creating execution frameworks / operating models / delivery processes in fast-paced or ambiguous environments
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering/Math (or equivalent) plus 8+ years of experience
• At least 3 years of direct people management experience
• Cross-functional partnership experience with Product and Design to deliver complex technical initiatives
• Ability to prioritize and deliver multiple concurrent initiatives with measurable business impact
• Experience evaluating engineering impact using customer, product, and business outcomes (not just delivery metrics)
• Experience leading teams through rapid growth and/or organizational scaling

Nice-to-haves / Preferred

• Knowledge of consumer financial products, fintech platforms, or lending systems
• Experience with mobile product development or customer-facing application experiences
