Role Overview

Senior Engineering Manager, AI Platform (Full-time, Remote)

You’ll own the experience layer of Zark Lab’s AI platform, bridging the AI backend with the people who use it daily. You’ll lead a team of 3–5 frontend and full stack engineers while staying hands-on in the codebase.

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 3–5 frontend and full stack engineers; run standups, code reviews, and sprint planning
Design and build complex interactive frontend applications with React, TypeScript, and Next.js (performance + usability)
Create and maintain reusable component libraries and design systems across the platform
Build real-time, AI-powered interfaces (e.g., streaming chat responses, live data tables, interactive visualizations)
Implement rich file handling experiences (drag-and-drop uploads, media playback, preview rendering, browsing across documents/video/images/datasets)
Architect and build low-latency, high-reliability APIs using Node.js/TypeScript with REST and WebSockets
Optimize frontend performance (code splitting, lazy loading, caching, bundle optimization)
Implement authentication/authorization and workspace-level multi-tenancy across the stack
Write clean, tested, production-ready code with CI/CD and automated testing (unit, integration, e2e)
Partner with the founding team on product direction, UX decisions, and technical architecture; prototype and iterate quickly

Requirements

6+ years full stack experience; 2–3 years building complex frontend applications
2+ years engineering management or tech lead experience (ideally managing a small frontend team)
Expert-level proficiency in React, TypeScript, and modern CSS (Tailwind, CSS Modules, or similar)
Strong Next.js experience in production
Solid backend skills in Node.js and TypeScript (APIs/services and database integrations)
Experience with real-time data (WebSockets, SSE, or streaming interfaces)
Comfortable with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and performant query writing
Knowledge of responsive design, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility
Experience with cloud deployments (GCP, AWS), Docker, and CI/CD workflows
Ability to deliver direct, constructive feedback and grow junior/mid-level engineers
Strong attention to UX details (spacing, transitions, loading states)
Bias toward shipping and rapid iteration

Nice to Have

ClickHouse or other columnar databases for analytical workloads
Video/audio streaming familiarity (e.g., HLS, adaptive bitrate) and media processing pipelines
Collaborative/multi-user real-time interfaces
Data visualization experience (D3, Recharts, etc.)
AI/LLM interface experience (chat UIs, streaming token rendering, tool-use displays)
Contributions to open-source frontend or full stack projects
