Senior Engineering Manager (A.I.)

Role overview

Join AlphaSense as a Senior Engineering Manager (AI), leading the AI Platform team. You will build and operate the company’s core enterprise AI Gateway, owning its strategy and architecture while mentoring a team of senior and staff software engineers.

Key missions

• Strategic team leadership: Manage, mentor, and grow a high-performing AI Platform team; foster a performance-driven culture.
• High-scale operations & scaling: Own the AI Gateway architecture and strategy, ensuring high availability and robust fallback mechanisms.
• Cross-functional alignment: Partner with Product Management, AI Research, and executive engineering leads to align the gateway roadmap with core product features.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading high-performance teams and developing technical leaders.
• Deep background in distributed systems architecture and operating at enterprise scale.
• Strong communication skills to align stakeholders across the R&D organization.
• Hands-on familiarity with multi-vendor integrations.
• Experience designing, building, and operating high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems (routing, caching, queueing, rate limiting).
• Experience with orchestrators and proxies such as Temporal and Envoy (or similar).
• Ability to provide technical thought leadership during architectural reviews.
• Experience with Python and Java, plus distributed caching/queueing systems.

Nice to have

• Applied AI experience.
• Familiarity with AI frameworks/tools such as LangChain, LangGraph, LiteLLM, or OpenRouter.
• Experience using AI tools in developer workflows to increase engineering velocity.
