Senior Director of Technical Program Management

Role Overview

As Senior Director of Technical Program Management at GitLab, you will lead the Engineering technical program management function. You’ll oversee and grow a team of Technical Program Managers and drive strategic, cross-functional programs aligned to Engineering verticals.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

• Oversee GitLab’s Engineering technical program management function and lead an established team of Technical Program Managers.
• Drive strategic programs spanning:
  • horizontal productivity initiatives,
  • customer-facing feature delivery,
  • security vulnerability remediation.
• Define program plans: scope, milestones, success criteria, and staffing plans to turn ambiguity into clear execution.
• Align globally across engineering verticals and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience delivering complex programs across multiple teams with urgency and a customer-impact focus.
• Engineering background or strong technical foundation to build credibility with engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to define meaningful program metrics, use data to find gaps, and present clear recommendations.
• Experience building, scaling, and developing a technical program management function/team.
• Experience in technical program management and/or engineering leadership in complex technical organizations.
• Ability to influence without formal authority and collaborate effectively with Engineering, Product, Marketing, Sales, and Legal.
• Experience working across infrastructure, security, and platform engineering domains.
• Strong written and asynchronous communication skills in an all-remote environment.
