About the role

Role overview

As Senior Director of Data Engineering & Machine Learning at Modus Create, you will lead and scale the firm’s global Data & ML practice. You’ll guide distributed teams to architect modern data platforms and deliver AI/ML-powered products, combining technical depth with business vision.

Responsibilities

Lead and scale the Data & ML practice globally, guiding distributed teams building data platforms and AI/ML products
Bridge technical expertise and business strategy to shape data & ML direction
Mentor and grow leaders, hiring and developing high-performing distributed teams
Define and drive machine learning strategy using platforms such as:
- SageMaker
- Azure ML
- TensorFlow
Ensure successful implementation of data engineering and ML initiatives
Support pre-sales activities, including solution design, proposal development, and growth of data/ML engagements

Requirements

Ability to hire, mentor, and grow high-performing distributed teams
Experience defining and driving ML strategy with SageMaker, Azure ML, or TensorFlow
Deep expertise in modern data ecosystems, including:
- Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery
- Spark, Kafka
- Airflow, dbt
- Kubernetes
Experience operating in a fast-paced, global, remote-first consulting environment
Ability to translate technical capabilities into measurable business impact
Strong stakeholder management across technical, executive, and cross-functional audiences
15+ years in data/software engineering, including 7+ years leading Data Engineering or ML teams
Proven pre-sales/solution design experience: pre-sales, proposal development, and growing engagements
Hands-on experience designing/scaling cloud-native data platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP
Strong understanding of DataOps, MLOps, and CI/CD for data pipelines and ML models
Experience integrating partnership capabilities across acquisitions (preferred/mentioned)
Background in regulated or complex industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, life sciences)
Track record of building modular frameworks, tooling standards, and scalable best practices
Experience positioning AI, security, and DevSecOps modernization for enterprise clients
