Senior Devops Engineer

Role overview

Senior DevOps Engineer responsible for advancing infrastructure automation, operational excellence, reliability, and scale. You will provide technical leadership shaping infrastructure and tooling strategy, with a strong focus on automation, security (SecOps mindset), and incident readiness.

Responsibilities

• Implement infrastructure automation, monitoring, and system reliability practices to support 100% service availability
• Perform forensic Linux administration, troubleshooting unfamiliar Linux systems and services
• Drive secure automation and hardened Linux administration aligned with SecOps practices
• Advance DevOps best practices including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and zero-touch provisioning
• Improve release management, incident management, capacity planning, and operational readiness
• Instrument services with visualization to accelerate triage and reduce MTTR (no direct access to systems)
• Provide horizontal technical influence across senior peers and guide down to the team
• Mentor DevOps/engineering team members and foster continuous improvement
• Proactively identify and implement resiliency improvements
• Lead technical direction across infrastructure, cloud, networking (BGP), and automation strategy
• Participate in on-call rotation with strong customer empathy during incidents
• Own and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and system documentation
• Research, prototype, and implement new technologies across cloud, virtualization, and hardware platforms

Requirements

• Strong Linux systems administration background, including how Linux interacts with hardware (CPU, memory, disk, networking)
• Advanced scripting/automation skills using Ansible, Bash, Python, Packer, and Terraform
• Hands-on experience with AWS (e.g., EC2, IAM, VPC) and provisioning tools (Terraform, Packer)
• Experience with datacenter operations (racking, stacking, remote system management)
• Proven ability to manage/configure systems at scale using zero-touch provisioning
• Monitoring experience, including building custom dashboards for observability
• Solid Linux networking fundamentals; BGP and DNS experience is a plus
• Passion for operational excellence, security, and performance
• Ability to self-manage, communicate effectively, and collaborate across technical teams
• Willingness to learn new technologies

Nice to have

• Experience with Kentik, Splunk, or similar network visibility/observability platforms
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD tools and pipeline architecture
• Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs
• Understanding of release management in large-scale environments
