Senior Design Researcher

Role Overview

Hudl is hiring a Senior Design Researcher for its Hardware business unit. You’ll serve as the research expert, defining the future of automated capture and wearable technology, and connecting research insights directly to product outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware research embedded within product teams to maintain close connection to customers.
• Conduct and run interviews, usability studies, and field research to ensure the team is building the right products.
• Apply qualitative and quantitative methodologies across hardware and software contexts.
• Create research plans, mentor other designers, and share best practices to raise research quality.
• Use AI to accelerate synthesis and pattern recognition, shortening the feedback loop.
• Partner with Product Managers and designers to define right-sized research objectives.
• Present findings via compelling storytelling and clear metrics.

Requirements (Must-Haves)

• 5+ years experience as a design researcher in tech environments.
• Proven ability to connect insights to design outcomes.
• Strong skill at extracting contextual information about users, environments, and tasks, and translating insights into design decisions.
• AI-fluent approach to using AI-assisted research tools while maintaining rigor.
• Excellent communication through visualization and storytelling.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% (domestic and international).
• Research expertise across hardware and/or software (including consumer electronics/hard goods).
• Strong qualitative/quantitative methods such as focus groups, in-depth interviews, usability testing, field studies, and prototype evaluations.

Nice-to-Haves

• Advanced degree in HCI, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, or a related field.
• Experience working with software product teams and understanding research needs in digital product development.

Location / Remote Options

• Preference for candidates near Lincoln and Omaha.
• Open to remote candidates in: Kansas City, Chicago, Austin, or Dallas.
