Senior Design Researcher

Role overview

Hudl is hiring a Senior Design Researcher for the Hardware business unit. You will be the research expert responsible for defining the future of automated capture and wearable technology, connecting research insights directly to product outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware research while staying embedded in product teams.
• Maintain direct customer connection through interviews, usability studies, and field research.
• Use qualitative and quantitative methods to uncover user needs (hardware and software contexts).
• Create research plans with cross-functional teams and mentor designers, sharing best practices.
• Use AI fluently to accelerate synthesis and pattern recognition, tightening the feedback loop.
• Partner with Product Managers and designers to shape research objectives and deliver findings with clear metrics and strong storytelling.

Requirements (Must-haves)

• 5+ years of experience as a design researcher in tech environments.
• Proven track record of connecting insights to design outcomes.
• Strong ability to extract actionable context about users, environments, and tasks and translate insights into design decisions.
• AI-assisted research experience with a focus on accelerating delivery without losing rigor.
• Excellent communicator with strengths in visualization and storytelling.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
• Expertise in research across hardware and/or consumer electronics (including qualitative and quantitative approaches).
• Experience with methods such as focus groups, in-depth interviews, usability testing, field studies, and prototype evaluations.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced degree in HCI, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, or related field.
• Background working with software product teams and understanding digital product research needs.

Location / Remote

• Prefer candidates near Hudl offices in Lincoln and Omaha.
• Open to remote candidates in Kansas City, Chicago, Austin, or Dallas.
