About the role
Role overview
Join Jobber as a Senior Database Engineer to build and maintain the stability and scalability of Aurora Postgres databases. You will partner with Operations and Engineering to ensure reliable database performance, efficient operations, and cost-effective cloud usage.
Responsibilities
- Ensure stability and scalability of an Aurora Postgres database fleet by identifying and resolving issues.
- Monitor and alert on database health and performance.
- Collaborate with development teams on schema design and query optimization.
- Perform cost analysis and database optimization in the AWS cloud.
Requirements
- 5–10 years administering databases such as Postgres (preferred), or also Oracle/MySQL, ideally in a cloud environment.
- Experience with AWS database services, including RDS Aurora, RDS Proxy, and Database Migration Services (or equivalent non-AWS tooling).
- Experience with Disaster Recovery / High Availability architectures.
- Strong understanding of Postgres internals and query analysis tools such as EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN plan.
- Familiarity with performance monitoring tools such as RDS Performance Insights.
- Knowledge of caching technologies like Redis and/or Memcached.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
- Some “glue” scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
- 2–3 years development experience and experience with Rails ActiveRecord.
Nice to have / additional experience
- Experience with AWS Redshift.
- Experience with Elasticsearch.
