Senior Data Scientist, Product Analytics (Remote, US)

Role overview

Renew Home is seeking a Senior Data Scientist (Product Analytics) to join the Product Analytics team. You will work with stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Operations, and Partnerships to deliver analytic solutions and timely insights that drive product and business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional initiatives to define, implement, and iterate on measurement and analytics for the Virtual Power Plant (VPP)
• Analyze and interpret complex datasets to uncover product, business, and user insights
• Propose strategies to improve both VPP systems and the tools used by energy industry partners
• Synthesize large-scale disparate datasets (e.g., smart meter data, device telemetry, settlement data, and logs)
• Build source-of-truth data models in dbt to power reporting and decision-making
• Define and monitor KPIs for product features and business initiatives
• Influence product and business strategy by communicating findings, recommendations, and tradeoffs
• Partner with engineers to define data instrumentation for new product features
• Perform statistical analysis and build predictive models on user interactions and smart device data
• Contribute to team culture via analytics best practices, tool/process improvements, code reviews, and mentoring

Requirements

• 5+ years in analytics, analytics engineering, or data science
• Strong SQL skills and deep experience with columnar warehouses (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery), including dimensional modeling, query optimization, and warehouse design
• Proficiency in Python for analysis (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Jupyter)
• Solid statistics foundation including causal inference, experimentation, and simulation
• Ability to work through ambiguity, with excellent problem-solving and attention to detail
• Product intuition and ability to connect data insights to user experience and business outcomes

Preferred qualifications

• Experience or strong interest in energy (energy markets, smart devices, or home energy systems)
• Understanding of smart energy devices (e.g., thermostats, EVs, solar, batteries, water heaters) and home/building energy systems
• Experience with dbt and orchestration/workflow tools like Prefect/Airflow
• Familiarity with AWS ecosystem (e.g., Redshift, S3, ZeroETL, ECS, Lambda)
• Experience with AI/ML tools/frameworks (not fully shown in the posting)
