About the role
Role Overview
Join Upvest as a Senior Data Product Engineer (full remote from Berlin, DE). You will own and improve the company’s Kafka consumer and CDC pipelines, help architect and deliver the Lakehouse foundation, and act as a trusted consultant for data integration, modeling, and schema design across the organization.
Key Missions
- Own and improve Kafka consumer pipelines to capture, transform, and store event data.
- Design and build CDC-based pipelines to capture and replicate changes from source systems into the data platform.
- Consult across the organization on data integration, data modeling, and schema design.
Requirements
- Strong focus on reliability and scalability for data infrastructure.
- Experience with schema design and data modeling.
- Ability to advise teams and translate needs into platform solutions.
- Experience building and operating event-driven data pipelines, ideally with Kafka.
- Solid SQL skills for transformation and staging-layer development.
- Experience with a systems-level language such as Python or Go.
- Cloud experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure (primarily GCP).
- Data observability/monitoring experience (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus).
Nice to Have / Additional
- Experience with CDC tooling such as Debezium or Fivetran.
- Familiarity or strong interest in open table formats such as Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, or Hudi.
- Interest/experience with Agentic AI.
- Product and consulting mindset; strong communication skills and ability to promote data literacy.
