About the role

Role overview

Senior Data Platform Engineer on the Integrations, Data Engineering and AI (IDEA) team within Samsara’s Business Technology organization. The team builds a reliable data platform and trustworthy data/analytics so other teams can leverage GenAI and make data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

Databricks administration: administer and monitor Databricks workspaces and underlying AWS infrastructure.
Build platform admin tools/capabilities to administer, monitor, track, and troubleshoot Databricks resources (clusters, catalogs, users/groups, databases, storage, and security).
Serve as the primary Databricks subject matter expert (SME); guide teams on platform features and best practices.
Work with data engineers, analysts, and data scientists to operationalize and optimize workflows and data pipelines.
Infrastructure & DevOps:
- Oversee the data-engineering dev ecosystem including tooling, CI/CD, and monitoring frameworks.
- Own IaaC implementation and management (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD automation for Databricks and AWS resources.
- Ensure security, high availability, disaster recovery, and compliance for data services.
- Apply DevOps best practices such as automated testing, deployment, and observability/monitoring.
Cross-functional collaboration & enablement:
- Engage stakeholders to understand data needs and design scalable solutions.
- Collaborate with engineers, managers, and vendors when evaluating new platform/features.

Requirements

Strong Databricks administration experience (workspaces, resources, security, troubleshooting) as the primary SME.
Ability to operationalize data engineering workflows and pipelines with cross-functional teams.
Experience building and managing CI/CD and infrastructure automation for Databricks and AWS.
Ownership mindset for security, reliability, disaster recovery, and compliance across data services.

Nice-to-haves

Experience implementing platform admin tooling for data platform operations.
Experience with automated testing, deployment, and observability/monitoring frameworks for data platforms.

Location / eligibility

Open to candidates residing in the US, excluding the San Francisco Bay Area and New York Metro City.
