Senior Data Engineer (The Points Guy)

Role overview

Join The Points Guy as a Senior Data Engineer. You will build data products and create the foundation for machine learning and business analytics, with end-to-end ownership from idea through production.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and infrastructure on Databricks and AWS
• Develop scalable, well-tested data models supporting insights such as lifetime value, churn, and propensity
• Implement and promote best practices in data architecture, security, observability, and governance
• Build end-to-end solutions in collaboration with stakeholders

Requirements

• Proven experience building scalable data pipelines and integrations using APIs
• Strong communication skills; able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
• Domain experience in consumer finance, banking, or fintech
• Data modeling & warehousing experience, including:
  • Dimensional, data vault, and real-time schemas
  • SQL performance tuning on data warehouses (including Snowflake and Databricks SQL)
• Orchestration & DevOps, including:
  • dbt, GitHub Actions, Terraform, and strong CI/CD practices
• Streaming experience:
  • Hands-on production experience with Kafka and Spark Structured Streaming
• Cloud & big data platforms, including:
  • 5+ years designing and building on AWS and Databricks (data lake/lakehouse architectures)
• Programming:
  • Expert in SQL and Python/Scala
• Data architecture/system design for both batch and real-time
• Experience modernizing/migrating large-scale data environments to Databricks or AWS
• Familiarity with data governance, cataloging, and access control frameworks
• Proven ability to influence technical direction and drive adoption of best practices
