Senior Data Engineer

Role overview

As a Senior Data Engineer at Headspace, you will help build and operate a modern data platform powering personalized mental health support. You’ll design robust data pipelines, partner with analytics and data science teams, and contribute to a secure, compliant, and privacy-first data foundation.

What you will do

• Design and implement data pipelines to ingest, aggregate, and index diverse data sources into the organization’s data lake
• Build a data warehousing solution with a focus on security, compliance, and healthcare-grade requirements
• Partner with data analytics to enable accurate, actionable reporting on key business metrics
• Collaborate with data science / ML teams to support rapid experimentation and innovation
• Support peers and help build a culture where data is a strategic asset

What you will bring

Required skills

• 4+ years designing and implementing large-scale data systems
• Strong Python and tooling experience (pip, poetry, pytest, pydantic)
• Strong PySpark (DataFrame API) with knowledge of architecture and optimization techniques
• Experience with Databricks preferred, or experience with Redshift and/or Snowflake
• Expertise in architectural patterns for high-volume ETL pipelines
• Experience with data modeling and Medallion architecture, pipeline design, metrics calculation, and technical documentation
• Exceptional communication skills across oral and written facilitation of cross-functional work
• BA/BS in CS/Engineering (or equivalent practical experience)

Preferred skills

• Terraform experience (deployment/infrastructure management)
• Experience implementing governance, privacy, and security frameworks
• Familiarity with PII/PHI, HIPAA, and biometrics data complexities
• Experience with dbt for transformations, documentation, and lineage
• Experience with AI-ready architecture, including semantic layers to standardize business logic for Agentic AI enablement

Location & work model

• Hiring in the United States; candidates must permanently reside in the US.
• Hybrid for candidates in the greater SF area: 3 days/week in office, remaining days flexible/remote.

Compensation

• Anticipated base salary range: $122,400–$195,500 + equity + benefits (location-dependent).
