Role Overview

As a Senior Data Engineer at Headspace, you’ll help build the modern data platform that powers personalized mental health support. You’ll design and implement robust data pipelines, partner with analytics, data science, and engineering teams, and build a secure, compliant, privacy-focused data foundation for healthcare-grade data needs.

What You’ll Do

Design and implement data pipelines to ingest, aggregate, and index data sources into Headspace’s data lake.
Build a secure, compliant, privacy-focused data warehousing solution aligned with healthcare requirements.
Partner with Data Analytics to deliver a platform that supports accurate, actionable reporting on key business metrics.
Collaborate with Data Science and ML teams to enable rapid experimentation and innovation.
Support peers and champion a culture where data is treated as a strategic asset.

What You’ll Bring

Required

4+ years designing and implementing large-scale data systems.
Strong Python fundamentals and tooling (e.g., pip, poetry, pytest, pydantic).
Strong experience with PySpark (DataFrame API) and knowledge of architecture/optimization.
Familiarity with Databricks (preferred) or experience with Redshift and/or Snowflake.
Proven expertise in architectural patterns for high-volume ETL pipelines.
Experience with data modeling, Medallion architecture, pipeline design, metrics calculation, and technical documentation.
Excellent written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration.
BA/BS in CS/Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).

Preferred

Terraform for deployment/infrastructure management.
Experience with governance, privacy, and security frameworks.
Knowledge of PII/PHI and HIPAA (including biometrics data).
Experience using dbt for transformations, documentation, and lineage.
Ability to design AI-ready architecture, including semantic layers for Agentic AI enablement.

Location & Work Model

Hiring in the United States; candidates must permanently reside in the US.
Based in Seattle, WA (US cities as specified by recruiter).
For candidates in the greater SF area: hybrid model with 3 days/week in office, and flexible remote time for the rest of the week.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $122,400–$195,500 + equity + benefits (plus healthcare coverage).
