Senior Data Engineer

Role overview

As a Senior Data Engineer (full remote), you’ll build, optimize, and maintain data pipelines that power key business and analytics use cases. You’ll collaborate closely with the VP of Engineering and contribute to Garner Health’s mission.

Key missions

• Build, optimize, and maintain data pipelines.
• Define and build reusable abstracted datasets to support business intelligence, marketing, and data science.
• Design and promote federated data validation frameworks to detect potential data inconsistencies.

Responsibilities

• Own pipeline reliability and performance improvements.
• Develop data models and reusable datasets for downstream teams.
• Implement validation/monitoring to improve data quality.

Requirements

• 4+ years in software/data engineering, including areas such as distributed processing, data warehousing, data governance, big data, privacy, and data quality.
• Experience implementing data pipelines using Python and SQL in AWS.
• Strong SQL tuning/optimization.
• Spark development experience.
• Experience with medallion and event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with data security and HIPAA compliance.
• Experience with orchestration tools (especially Airflow).
• Experience with PostgreSQL and data lakes/warehouses including Iceberg and Snowflake.
• Demonstrated expertise in SQL and Python.
• Familiarity with healthcare/insurance is preferred.

Nice to have

• Domain familiarity with healthcare or insurance.
• Experience with scalable pipeline design, query optimization, and reusable dataset definitions (emphasized).
