About the role

Role overview

As a Senior Data Engineer at Foodsmart, you will design, optimize, and maintain the company’s data pipeline architecture. You’ll work closely with data scientists and analysts to enable data-driven initiatives, while ensuring data delivery is scalable, reliable, and secure.

Key missions

Build and optimize data pipeline architecture in collaboration with data scientists and analysts
Lead optimization and scalability of data delivery pipelines to ensure performance and reliability
Establish best practices for data quality, governance, security, and compliance
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance

Drive data quality, governance, security, and compliance standards
Improve performance and scalability of data delivery systems
Provide technical leadership and mentorship

Requirements

Strong programming background for data processing/automation (Python, Scala, or Java)
Proficiency with data pipeline/workflow orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Dagster, Luigi)
Experience designing data models and schemas for operational and analytical use cases
Quality- and reliability-focused mindset with strong ownership
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in fast-paced, high-growth environments
Experience applying secure, compliant data handling in regulated environments
Advanced SQL and strong experience with relational/columnar database systems
Experience with backend development and strong proficiency in TypeScript, Java, Python, Node.js, and SQL-based RDBMS (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
6+ years of professional experience in data engineering; proven track record leading large-scale, complex projects
Expert knowledge in modern cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and data warehouse architecture/dimensional modeling
Advanced/automated data engineering at scale

Nice to have

Familiarity with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7) or other regulated data domains
Master’s degree in a relevant field
