Senior Data Engineer (Finance)

Role Overview

Join Instacart as a Senior Data Engineer (Finance) on the Data Infrastructure team. You’ll design and build data integration pipelines and models that power uniform, reliable, timely, and accurate financial reporting, partnering closely with finance, accounting, billing, and revenue.

Key Missions

• Conceive, design, and implement data integration pipelines and data models for financial reporting.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with finance/accounting/billing/revenue to understand pain points and translate them into scalable data solutions.
• Mentor team members and champion engineering excellence while helping drive the Finance Data Strategy and build the financial data infrastructure platform.

Requirements

• 8+ years in Data/Software Engineering with a focus on building data pipelines, especially financial data.
• Strong ability to balance speed with quality and pragmatic execution.
• Production experience with data infrastructure technologies including:
  • Python, Airflow, Spark, Iceberg, Delta Lake
• Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery.
• Knowledge of data immutability/auditability and concepts like slowly changing dimensions.
• Experience building complex ETL/ELT pipelines, including pipelines for accounting/billing.
• Ability to work effectively in a large codebase on cross-functional teams.
• Strong stakeholder communication to drive requirements and design shared datasets.
• Expert SQL and dbt (Data Build Tool).
• Expert data modeling for complex financial data with scalability and usability in mind.
• SOX-controlled data systems experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/engineering or equivalent work experience.
