Senior Data Engineer

Role Overview

Join Ethena as a Senior Data Engineer to build and own a reliable, production-ready market data platform. The platform will serve as the single source of truth for trading, risk, and business intelligence.

Key Missions

• Deliver a working historical and real-time “Tardis” market data pipeline within the first 60 days.
• Own the entire data platform from inception to production.
• Evolve the system into a best-in-class, cloud-native, observable, self-service platform.
• Partner with the CTO and trading team to scope and deliver to business needs.
• Serve as the go-to data expert and mentor junior data engineers/analysts.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement large-scale ETL/ELT for financial/market data.
• Build and operate low-latency streaming ingestion (e.g., WebSockets, queues).
• Provide fast query performance from day one using time-series data stores.
• Automate environments and releases using Terraform, GitOps, automated testing/deploy, and observability practices.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of stablecoins, lending protocols, and opportunity surface concepts (or ability to ramp up extremely quickly).
• Expert in large-scale, reliable ETL/ELT for financial or market data.
• Ability to provision full environments in days with Terraform, plus strong experience with AWS/GCP serverless technologies.
• Proven delivery of production data in weeks, not months, including ability to cut scope to hit a 60-day MVP while managing technical debt.
• Advanced expertise in WebSocket clients, message queues, and low-latency streaming.
• Strong GitOps, automated testing/deploy, and observability practices.
• Expert Python and SQL; proficiency with TimescaleDB or ClickHouse for time-series workloads.
• Prior experience building Tardis historical and real-time pipelines (or equivalent high-quality crypto market data feed experience), including understanding rate limits and WebSocket structures.

Nice-to-Haves

• Prior experience specifically with Tardis pipelines.
