About the role

Role Overview

Senior Data Engineer (100% Remote, U.S. Only) — hands-on, cloud-native engineering role building and scaling a reliable data ecosystem in AWS. You will design data architectures and build secure, scalable data infrastructure that supports critical analytics and operational systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design & build cloud-native data systems using AWS services (e.g., AWS Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Redshift, Aurora, Amazon S3, MWAA/Airflow)
  • Develop modern data architectures including data lakes, warehouses, ingestion pipelines, and transactional processing
  • Translate business/analytics requirements into scalable data models
  • Build internal applications using Python, SQL, and stored procedures
  • Design and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and validating complex datasets
  • Automate manual workflows to improve reliability and reduce operational overhead
  • Optimize performance and scalability, including tuning pipelines for reliability and cost efficiency
  • Evaluate and continuously improve platform capabilities
  • Collaborate with product and analytics stakeholders to align solutions with business goals
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship within the data engineering team
  • Implement data governance and security controls, including compliance with healthcare data regulations
  • Protect sensitive data via strong access controls and monitoring

Requirements

  • 7+ years of data engineering (or similar)
  • Deep expertise in AWS-native data platforms, including:
    • Amazon Redshift, Aurora/RDS PostgreSQL
    • AWS Glue, AWS Lambda, Step Functions
    • MWAA (Airflow)
  • Strong Python and SQL skills, including advanced query optimization
  • Healthcare data experience (e.g., medical claims, pharmacy/Rx claims, or similar)
  • Ability to partner with business teams and translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Ownership mindset and strong collaboration/communication
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related quantitative field
