Senior Data Analyst

Role Overview

Mission US is hiring a Senior Data Analyst (Remote-first, US-based) to turn insurance data into actionable insights for product, underwriting, operations, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate has strong experience with commercial/specialty insurance data, especially bordereaux (BDX) submissions, along with SQL and BI/reporting skills.

What You’ll Do

• Use SQL and analytical techniques to investigate business questions and anomalies across policy, premium, coverage, claims, and BDX data.
• Analyze, reconcile, and validate BDX/bordereaux submissions and partner/carrier feeds, identifying gaps, mapping issues, and reporting impacts.
• Partner with stakeholders to align data initiatives with business goals and determine reporting/analysis needs.
• Build recurring reports and dashboards using BI tools and fit-for-purpose datasets; source and validate logic with SQL.
• Lead root cause analysis for data variances or emerging trends; communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with data engineers to understand pipeline logic and recommend field-level enhancements for BDX ingestion, mapping, and transformation.
• Define data models and structures that meet business requirements and support accessible analysis.
• Establish data quality rules, validation checks, and cleaning procedures for insurance datasets (including BDX).
• Monitor and escalate data quality issues with recommendations for resolution.
• Own and document key business metrics, calculations, and definitions for downstream consumers.
• Mentor junior analysts on analytical logic, quality checks, and data storytelling.
• Maintain and update metadata describing data assets.
• Create documentation and process flows for data collection, transformation, and analysis workflows.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or analytical roles.
• 4+ years working with commercial or specialty insurance data, including BDX/bordereaux, policy, premium, and claims datasets.
• Hands-on experience with BDX/bordereaux validation, reconciliation, or mapping.
• Strong SQL and Excel skills; experience with large datasets, normalized schemas, and data validation.
• Comfortable using BI tools to deliver end-user reporting.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and documentation skills.
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, product, and business teams.
