Senior Data Analyst (Hybrid - Madison or Austin)

Role Overview

Senior Data Analyst for Zendesk’s Foundation Insights team. You will turn engineering, product, and operational data into trusted metrics, self-service dashboards, and analyses used by engineering and product leaders.

Responsibilities

• Develop SQL queries and dbt models to build analysis-ready metric data models.
• Build and maintain self-service dashboards and reports for engineering productivity, AI adoption, reliability, and cost metrics.
• Define and standardize metrics across engineering teams (including DORA-style definitions such as change-failure-rate and cycle time), ensuring comparisons remain valid.
• Analyze platform adoption and AI tool usage, communicating results with both quantitative analysis and qualitative storytelling.
• Conduct proactive investigations to identify root causes behind data anomalies.
• Create documentation and enablement materials so stakeholders can trust and self-serve the data.
• Collaborate with internal engineering, product, and analytics teams to align on shared metric definitions and review peer work.
• Implement data quality tests and monitoring (e.g., dbt tests and Monte Carlo) to prevent invalid metric comparisons.
• Integrate data from APIs and third-party tools into Snowflake for analytics and AI enrichment.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in analytics/data delivering decision-driving metrics.
• Strong SQL skills, including complex queries and building analysis-ready models.
• Hands-on dbt experience (or willingness to ramp quickly).
• Experience with BI/dashboarding tools (e.g., Tableau or Looker).
• Experience with a cloud data warehouse (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks).
• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive-level stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with a passion for data quality, problem solving, and reliable metric definitions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Python proficiency; familiarity with data modeling, forecasting, and analysis techniques.
• Experience building and deploying open-source BI solutions.
• Familiarity with software engineering best practices (Git/GitHub PR workflows, code review, CI/CD, testing).
• Experience with large datasets, data APIs, and cloud object storage (AWS/GCP), plus data quality monitoring tools (Monte Carlo, dbt tests).
• Fluency with modern AI tooling (e.g., Claude, GPT/Codex, MCP servers).

Location / Remote Policy

Hybrid role requiring in-office work from Madison, WI or Austin, TX at least two days per week (or as determined by your manager).
