Senior Data Analyst (Finance & Accounting)

Role Overview

Senior Data Analyst (Finance & Accounting) joining Zip’s Data & Analytics team. You will partner with Finance teams (Accounting, Treasury, and FP&A) and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver insights, robust reporting, and data models that support operational excellence and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Finance stakeholders to understand business questions, reporting needs, and analytical requirements.
• Design, build, and maintain SQL-based datasets, views, and queries for recurring and ad hoc analysis.
• Collaborate with data engineering/analytics teams to improve finance data models, data quality, and documentation.
• Develop, enhance, and maintain dashboards and reports in Tableau (preferred) or Power BI.
• Support month-end and quarter-end close with reconciliations, variance analysis, and operational reporting.
• Partner with Treasury on external funding partner reporting; analyze cash drivers and payment flows to support liquidity operations.
• Support FP&A budgeting and forecasting via performance tracking against financial targets and strategic plans.
• Translate complex analyses into clear narratives and recommendations for non-technical stakeholders (presentations and written summaries).
• Help design/implement automation and standardization for recurring finance reporting and metrics.
• Ensure reporting adheres to controls, data governance, and audit/SOX requirements where applicable.

Requirements

• 5+ years in a Data Analyst, Business Intelligence, or Analytics role.
• Strong hands-on SQL skills (complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and performance tuning).
• Experience designing scalable, well-documented data models for analytical use.
• Experience building/maintaining dashboards in Tableau (preferred) or Power BI.
• Demonstrated experience with Finance data (e.g., P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, GL, revenue, expenses, AR/AP, write-offs, reconciliations).
• Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and ability to structure ambiguous problems.
• Ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders and translate requirements into data solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics/Math, Data Analytics, Computer Science) or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with dbt Cloud concepts.
• Experience supporting Finance, Accounting, or FP&A teams (noted as a plus).
