About the role

Role Overview

Join Fastly as a Senior Cloud Engineer to optimize product delivery, global footprint, and end-user experience using the Fastly platform. You’ll work as a trusted customer advocate, helping customers understand technologies, migrate workloads to Fastly, and troubleshoot and recommend improvements.

Key Missions & Responsibilities

Trusted customer advocate: Help organizations understand relevant technologies and support efficient migrations to Fastly.
Customer technical relationships: Build technical depth with customers around their teams, infrastructure, plans, and challenges.
Post-sales implementations: Implement Fastly products such as:
- Logging endpoints
- Image optimization
- VCL coding and related configuration, documenting key customer setup details.
Investigate and improve: Investigate issues and recommend improvements; identify opportunities to introduce new Fastly products.
Hands-on problem solving: Lead and support customer issues and requests directly.

Requirements

5+ years experience in roles such as Sales Engineering, Web Development, customer-facing DevOps, Technical Account Management, or Solutions Architecture (Pre-Sales/Post-Sales).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (writing + verbal), with critical thinking and analytical ability.
Hands-on Linux experience and scripting/tooling skills including: Python, Sed, Awk, Perl, JSON, Ruby, Go, Node.js.
Strong understanding of networking and routing, including BGP and differences between transit and peering.
Familiarity with HTTP/HTTPS, TCP, TLS, DNS, HLS, DASH, load balancing, plus Apache and NGINX.
Comfortable presenting, leading customer presentations and training.
Experience with internet and cloud-based architecture and cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and GCP, plus understanding of bare metal deployments.
Willingness to travel for customer meetings as needed.
Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and communicate deliverables/business impact.
Ability to work a flexible schedule occasionally based on customer needs.
Empathy and strong customer understanding.

Nice to Have

Experience with streaming video/audio technologies and/or e-commerce technologies/solutions.
Experience with Varnish and Varnish Configuration Language (VCL).
Experience in the CDN or cloud computing industries.
