Senior Cloud Architect, Remote

Role Overview

As a Senior Cloud Architect and senior technical leader, you will design, implement, and govern secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architecture to support Altra Federal Credit Union’s strategic and operational needs. You will act as a trusted advisor to IT, Information Security, and business stakeholders, modernizing infrastructure while maintaining security, regulatory compliance, and operational stability.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain enterprise cloud architecture across AWS, Azure, or GCP, including support for hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
• Lead cloud migration, modernization, and optimization efforts aligned to business and IT strategy.
• Establish cloud governance frameworks covering security, compliance, and cost management best practices.
• Partner with IT, security, and business teams to align cloud solutions with organizational goals.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to infrastructure, systems, and application teams.
• Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies, tools, and vendors for scalability, performance, resiliency, and cost efficiency.
• Design architectures for high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
• Serve as an escalation point for complex cloud and infrastructure issues.
• Create/maintain technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and future-state roadmaps.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Science, MIS, Business Administration, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, deploying and maintaining Azure or other cloud environments.
• Proven experience leading complex cloud initiatives and providing technical guidance.
• Hands-on experience with hybrid networking, identity management, automation, and governance frameworks.
• Deep experience with Microsoft Azure is critical.

Preferred Qualifications

• DevOps practices and CI/CD pipeline experience.
• Azure certifications preferred:
  • AZ-104 (Azure Administrator Associate)
  • AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architecture Expert)
  • AZ-500 (Azure Security Engineer Associate)
• Additional specialist certifications valued.
• Experience in financial services (banking/credit unions) preferred.

Work Schedule / Availability

• Full-time, salaried, 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday.
• Core hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. CST.
• Flexibility for evenings/weekends during scheduled maintenance/outages (with advance notice when possible).
• Must be available for after-hours troubleshooting as needed.

Location / Remote Policy

• Based at Altra’s Operations Center in Onalaska, WI.
• Remote work considered for candidates who live in approved states: CO, FL, GA, IA, MI, MN, NJ, NC, TN, TX, WI.
