About the role

Role Overview

Senior Cloud Architect to lead AWS cloud architecture and migration strategy for the National Library of Medicine’s modernization efforts. This position focuses on architectural design and migration planning rather than day-to-day cloud operations.

Responsibilities

Design enterprise AWS cloud solutions and secure, scalable environments
Lead cloud migration for existing applications
Create cloud-native architectures using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Develop AWS CloudFormation templates and deployment automation
Apply cloud security best practices and design secure architectures
Design highly available AWS environments
Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD automation
Mentor developers and infrastructure engineers
Perform cloud performance optimization and capacity planning
Recommend cloud modernization strategies

Requirements

10+ years in cloud engineering or architecture
Extensive AWS architecture experience
Experience with:
- CloudFormation, IAM, EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3
- Infrastructure as Code
- DevSecOps and CI/CD
- Hybrid cloud environments
Excellent communication and technical leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
AWS Security Specialty certification
Experience with Kubernetes or Docker
Federal healthcare experience
Cloud migration leadership experience
