About the role
Role Overview
The Senior Kubernetes Cloud Architect designs, deploys, and maintains Kubernetes clusters on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). You’ll partner with cloud architecture, DevOps, and application teams to deliver robust, secure, and automated container orchestration aligned with the enterprise roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and support Kubernetes clusters on AKS and GKE (upgrades, scaling, and day-2 operations)
- Build new Kubernetes capabilities and add-ons, including:
- Istio, ArgoCD, Velero, Cert Manager
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and management using Terraform (Infrastructure-as-Code)
- Integrate CI/CD automation for application deployments and operational workflows using ArgoCD and GitHub Actions
- Use ServiceNow for ITSM integration (incident, change, request management)
- Collaborate cross-functionally to meet roadmap goals for availability, security, compliance, and cost optimization
- Enhance platform automation with AI/ML-based monitoring, scaling, self-healing, and anomaly detection
- Maintain technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and runbooks
- Participate in agile ceremonies and support iterative delivery cycles; provide status updates
- Troubleshoot Kubernetes workload and networking issues (including Istio Service Mesh) and integrations with enterprise services (e.g., Azure App Gateway, Akamai)
- Mentor team members and improve engineering standards and best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years hands-on experience managing Kubernetes clusters on AKS and GKE in production
- Proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code workflows
- Experience with GitHub (source control, code reviews, workflow automation)
- Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes add-ons and security practices (RBAC, TLS/mTLS)
- Experience engineering and integrating automation solutions and AI/ML for cloud platforms
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to deliver in agile, fast-paced, cross-functional environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud FinOps experience
- Observability and monitoring tools: Dynatrace, Splunk
- Network security experience: Calico, Prisma Twistlock
- Certifications: CKA/CKAD, Azure, or Google Cloud
