About the role

Role Overview

The Senior Kubernetes Cloud Architect designs, deploys, and maintains Kubernetes clusters on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). You will work closely with cloud architecture, DevOps, and application teams to deliver robust, secure, and automated container orchestration solutions aligned with the enterprise product roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, implement, and support Kubernetes clusters on AKS and GKE, including upgrades, scaling, and day-2 operations
  • Build and evolve Kubernetes capabilities and add-ons such as:
    • Istio
    • ArgoCD
    • Velero
    • cert-manager
  • Use Infrastructure-as-Code to automate provisioning, configuration, and management (best practices with Terraform)
  • Integrate CI/CD pipelines (e.g., ArgoCD, GitHub Actions) to automate deployments and operational workflows
  • Use ServiceNow for ITSM integration (incident, change, request management)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure platform outcomes for high availability, security, compliance, and cost optimization
  • Enhance automation using AI/ML-based tools for monitoring, scaling, self-healing, and anomaly detection
  • Maintain technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and runbooks
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and iterative delivery cycles; provide status updates and support sprint goals
  • Troubleshoot Kubernetes workload issues, networking (including Istio Service Mesh), and integrations with enterprise services (e.g., Azure App Gateway, Akamai)
  • Mentor team members and improve engineering standards and best practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years hands-on experience managing Kubernetes clusters on AKS and GKE in production
  • Proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code workflows
  • Experience with GitHub (source control, code reviews, workflow automation)
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow (or similar ITSM tools)
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes add-ons and security practices including RBAC and TLS/mTLS
  • Experience engineering/integrating automation solutions and AI/ML for cloud platforms
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven success delivering in agile, fast-paced, cross-functional environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

Preferred Skills

  • Cloud FinOps, observability (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk), and network security (e.g., Calico, Prisma Twistlock)
  • Kubernetes certification (CKA/CKAD) and/or Azure or Google Cloud certifications

Work-From-Home & Travel

  • Remote role with work-at-home requirements: high-speed wired internet (no satellite/wireless), minimum 25 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload
  • Occasional travel to Humana offices for training/meetings may be required
