Senior Business Intelligence Engineer

Role overview

Join ZipRecruiter as a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer. You will design and implement data systems that power business decisions and support operational stakeholders as well as product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data systems serving business stakeholders and product/engineering teams
• Build and own data models and advance data warehouse architecture
• Collaborate cross-functionally (RevOps, Decision Science, Product, Engineering) to process large-scale data
• Extend internal AI/LLM-powered analytics tooling for analytics or developer workflows
• Mentor and coach teammates, raise the technical bar, and help establish scalable standards
• Apply software engineering practices to data work (version control, CI/CD, code reviews, testing, monitoring)

Requirements

• 5+ years as a Data Engineer, Analytics/BI Engineer, or similar role at senior IC level
• Strong communicator comfortable working with both business stakeholders and engineering teams
• Advanced SQL and deep expertise in data modeling, schema design, and query optimization
• Hands-on application of software engineering practices to data engineering: Git, CI/CD, code review, automated testing, monitoring
• Strong understanding of data warehouse architecture and modern data modeling methodologies
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery)
• dbt proficiency for production analytics engineering
• Production-grade Python (beyond scripts into libraries/services/pipelines)
• Spark expertise (PySpark or Scala) and big data environments (e.g., Delta Lake or data lakes)
• Platform engineering mindset focused on abstractions and tooling that increase team productivity

• Experience building or extending internal AI/LLM-powered tooling for analytics or developer workflows
