Role overview

Join Vida Health as a Senior Backend Software Engineer (IV). You will design, build, and scale foundational backend services powering member experiences, with a strong focus on APIs, data interactions, and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Architect and deliver core backend services, including microservices and evolving, scalable APIs.
Lead technical design decisions and the strategy for new backend systems.
Write clean, performant, highly testable backend code primarily in Python and Django.
Manage containerized deployments and contribute to infrastructure evolution.
Ensure backend reliability, scalability, and a premium member journey.
Mentor peers and provide technical leadership across cross-functional initiatives.

Requirements

7+ years of professional engineering experience, with a track record of leading technical projects.
Strong system design skills for reliable distributed backend services.
Deep hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Strong experience with Python and the Django framework at a senior level.
Advanced SQL and relational database architecture, specifically PostgreSQL.
Strong observability, profiling, and performance tuning in production.
Proven infrastructure as code experience using Terraform.
Deep knowledge of containerization and orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes.
Hands-on experience with BigQuery and dbt, including query optimization and integrating analytical data into application backends.
Strong technical communication skills to explain complex architecture to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree minimum.

Nice to have

Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated environments (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2).
Experience with AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot).
Experience integrating AI/LLM models or collaborating with Data Science teams.
Experience with asynchronous task queues and messaging brokers: Celery, Redis, RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub.
Familiarity with automation hooks and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
