About the role

Role Overview

You’ll join the GRaF (Grading and Feedback) team to build and maintain backend services powering grading and feedback functionality. This Senior Backend Software Engineer role is focused on scalable, high-performance serverless systems.

Responsibilities

Architect and develop robust, scalable backend services using AWS Lambda
Design and implement RESTful APIs and event-driven systems
Optimize existing services for improved performance and cost-efficiency
Collaborate with QA, Product, UX, and Support to integrate backend services with frontend applications
Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers
Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues
Continue learning and improving engineering practices

Requirements

5+ years of backend development experience
Strong proficiency in at least one AWS Lambda-suitable language: Java, Python, or Node.js
Java strongly preferred
Experience with AWS services, especially Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB
Solid understanding of serverless architecture best practices
Experience with microservices design patterns and event-driven architectures
Proficiency with Git and CI/CD tooling
Strong problem-solving and attention to detail

Salary

Expected annual base salary range: $112,125 – $186,875
Role is bonus eligible
