About the role

Role overview

Senior Backend Software Engineer (PBA - Growth) on Affirm’s Powered by Affirm (PBA) team. You’ll build the APIs and backend solutions that power Affirm’s integrations with enterprise merchants and partners, leading engineering through complex problems while promoting quality and ownership.

Responsibilities

Lead engineering efforts to deliver the team’s quarterly objectives, guiding engineers through ambiguity to resolve open problems.
Collaborate with Product, Design, and Analytics throughout the product development lifecycle (including ideation) and clearly communicate technical constraints.
Proactively identify and lead resolution of issues across projects, processes, technology, and business.

Requirements

Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
Experience defining technical plans for delivering significant features or systems with simple, elegant, extensible design.
Write high-quality, maintainable code that others can understand and reuse.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience making major changes in a large codebase, including practices/tools to do so safely.
Track record building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
4+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale with Python or Kotlin.
Demonstrated ownership and growth mindset: seeking feedback from teammates, manager, and stakeholders.
