Senior Backend Software Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Backend Software Engineer (Python-focused) for remote work anywhere in the United States or Canada. You will design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable backend systems for critical applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable, reliable, and secure backend services using Python
• Design and implement databases using SQL and NoSQL architectures
• Set up CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Google Cloud Build
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and architecture with product and design teams
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code and follow coding standards
• Perform code reviews to ensure quality, performance, and adherence to architectural guidelines
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across backend systems and services
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and responsiveness
• Improve development processes, tools, and infrastructure over time
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge
• Stay current with backend trends and Wagtail

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend software development
• Proficiency in Python with experience in frameworks such as Django or Flask
• Solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and ORMs
• Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript plus HTML and CSS
• Experience with Git
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration
• Ability to work independently and take ownership from concept to deployment
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

• Data science concepts and Python ecosystem (e.g., pandas, NumPy)
• Experience implementing solutions with LLMs
