Senior Backend Software Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Backend Software Engineer to build highly scalable backend systems for cloud-enabled scientific and laboratory workflows. You’ll work on data-intensive applications, automation, and cloud services that orchestrate complex experiments remotely within a small, high-impact team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs focused on performance, reliability, and security
• Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and designers to deliver impactful solutions
• Contribute to technical architecture decisions and help shape product direction
• Ensure high availability via monitoring, observability, and participation in on-call rotations
• Perform code reviews and troubleshoot performance, scalability, and security issues
• Advocate for software engineering best practices (maintainability, clean architecture)
• Develop and optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing for scientific datasets
• Build/enhance services for real-time data ingestion, simulation execution, and distributed processing

Requirements

• 8+ years backend software development experience (products or enterprise systems)
• 6+ years hands-on experience with AWS (cloud platforms)
• Strong experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience working in startup or high-growth environments
• Proven coverage across the full software development lifecycle
• Strong programming skills in Go, Python, or Rust
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalable architecture
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
