Senior Backend Software Engineer (Identity)

Role Overview

Join Vanta’s Identity team as a Senior Backend Software Engineer (Identity). You will build core backend services that power Vanta’s security platform—especially authentication systems and authorization frameworks—and help multiple engineering teams integrate with the identity platform.

Key Missions

• Design and implement composable, extensible systems for complex user data modeling, supporting a shift toward policy-based authorization.
• Lead complex cross-stakeholder projects, partnering with engineers to improve operational posture and execution quality across the organization.
• Collaborate with Security to ensure best practices for customer data and participate in design reviews to guide trade-offs.

Profile / Requirements

• Security-focused mindset and understanding of enterprise security practices.
• Backend technical leadership: have led projects spanning months.
• Experience building platform services that scale across multiple teams.
• Ability to mentor and collaborate with other engineers.
• Strong capability in distributed systems challenges involving performance and security.
• Proven success with complex technical migrations while maintaining system stability.
• Strong data modeling skills for systems with complex relationships.
• At least 8 years of backend industry experience.
• Deep knowledge of authentication protocols and identity federation concepts:
  • OIDC, SAML, SSO
• Knowledge of authorization frameworks:
  • RBAC and/or policy-based access control.
