About the role
Role Overview
Join Counsel Health as a Senior Backend Software Engineer to design and evolve backend systems powering an external API and embedded product layer. You’ll work on greenfield initiatives involving the modeling and operationalization of longitudinal health data from wearables and external systems, with an emphasis on platform primitives and durable data models.
Key Missions
- Design and evolve external APIs and embedded product layers, with a focus on long-term stability and disciplined versioning.
- Build reusable platform primitives that enable external partners to embed and extend AI capabilities.
- Contribute to core data models unifying structured records, unstructured inputs, and high-frequency time-series signals.
Responsibilities
- Ship pragmatically while contributing to greenfield architectural design.
- Develop backend components used by customers/partners and maintain operational excellence.
- Model real-world, messy health data into clean, durable abstractions—especially high-frequency signals.
Requirements
- 5+ years building production backend systems (ideally in high-growth environments).
- Experience with distributed systems and multi-tenant architectures.
- Strong data modeling instincts, especially for time-series/high-frequency data.
- Experience designing and maintaining external-facing APIs.
- Experience building or scaling search / RAG systems in production.
- Track record of maintaining and improving operational excellence across software organizations.
Nice to Have
- Experience scaling systems from 1 → 10 in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience building complex systems that external customers rely on.
