Senior Backend Software Engineer

Role overview

You’ll be a Senior Backend Software Engineer on Cloudbeds’ Distribution Team, building and improving the products that connect Cloudbeds’ ecosystem to the world’s largest distribution channels. You’ll help architect scalable backend solutions, support a microservices migration, and ensure high performance and security for thousands of properties.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement robust backend features for the distribution platform using PHP.
• Architect secure solutions for financial transactions and sensitive personal data, applying security best practices across the SDLC.
• Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code with strong test coverage (unit, integration, end-to-end).
• Lead technical discussions and drive alignment between technical and non-technical stakeholders, including backend/frontend architecture decisions.
• Contribute to migrating core components to microservices and help shape the long-term technical vision.
• Re-architect and refactor legacy systems to modern standards.
• Mentor engineers through pair programming and code reviews.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to plan, build, and ship high-quality features.

Requirements

• 5+ years of PHP web application software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Docker and containerized development workflows.
• Expertise in performance optimization and strong knowledge of relational databases (indexing/search).
• Solid understanding of security for applications handling financial and personal data.
• Experience with test automation across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels.
• Proven ability to own projects and deliver results independently.
• Business-level English fluency (verbal and written).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in greenfield development plus refactoring legacy code.
• Familiarity with backend architecture evolution during microservices migrations.
