About the role

Role overview

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer at AKASA, you will build AI-powered services, APIs, and tools for the company’s Clinical Documentation and Medical Coding SaaS suite. You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, and machine learning teams to deliver backend capabilities that materially improve documentation quality and healthcare system financial integrity.

Key missions / responsibilities

Design and build backend services, APIs, and tools supporting AKASA’s SaaS products.
Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and machine learning teams to develop innovative solutions.
Participate in design discussions, planning sessions, and code reviews.
Mentor junior engineers and help shape the platform architecture.

Requirements

5+ years of professional experience in software development (or machine learning).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail.
CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions.
Python experience required.
Familiarity with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and PostgreSQL.
Proven experience with system design principles.
Track record delivering SaaS products.

Nice-to-haves

Experience with healthcare data exchange: FHIR, HL7, EDI.
Experience building consumer applications on top of ML pipelines.
Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS.
