Senior Backend Software Engineer

Role overview

Join Affirm’s Trust Infra team as a Senior Backend Software Engineer. You’ll help elevate the security posture of infrastructure and services, lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensure your team is supported throughout delivery.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive delivery of the team’s quarterly objectives, guiding engineers through ambiguous problem spaces.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to support the product development cycle (including ideation and articulating technical constraints).
• Proactively identify and resolve issues across project, process, technology, and business domains.
• Support operations and availability of your team’s artifacts.
• Foster a culture of quality, ownership, and talent development.

Requirements

• 4+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Demonstrated ownership of growth; proactively seeks feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering significant features or system components with simple, extensible design.
• Writes high-quality code that is easy for others to understand and use.
• Requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Experience making significant changes in a large codebase, with safe tool/practice development.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Track record building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

Nice-to-haves (implied by requirements)

• Deep expertise in Kubernetes resource management, Helm charts, and operator patterns, especially for security workloads.
