About the role

Role Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Usalco, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems, including APIs, databases, application services, and secure integration layers. You will serve as a senior technical contributor within IT and collaborate across engineering and business teams to ensure backend architecture supports enterprise applications, SaaS platforms, customer-facing experiences, and AI-enabled functionality.

Responsibilities

Backend application architecture & development: Design and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and business logic.
API development & integration: Build and maintain secure, scalable, well-documented RESTful APIs and integration services.
Database design & development: Create and optimize relational database structures, queries, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and secure data access patterns.
SaaS application support: Implement tenant-aware APIs, customer-aware application logic, and secure authentication patterns compatible with customer deployment models.
Business logic & workflow automation: Build validation layers, workflow automation, and backend services supporting operational and customer processes.
AI platform integration: Partner with AI platform teams to integrate AI capabilities (e.g., AI APIs, recommendations, conversational/predictive workflows).
Technical leadership & collaboration: Define backend standards, API contracts, integration patterns, security practices, and development best practices across teams.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
5+ years of experience in backend engineering or full-stack engineering with strong backend specialization.
Experience designing and developing scalable backend systems and cloud-ready application services.

Nice-to-haves (implied)

Experience with SaaS multi-tenant backend patterns and secure authentication.
Experience integrating backend services with AI-enabled applications.
