Senior Backend Engineer

Role overview

You will report to the Engineering Manager and serve as a hands-on technical leader designing and implementing scalable, reliable backend systems for Unqork’s AI-first enterprise platform.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend systems end-to-end, from architecture through production deployment
• Harden and optimize services for stability, performance, and release readiness
• Lead delivery of backend services, APIs, and data models with strong maintainability practices
• Establish technical standards and best practices across code quality, architecture, and system design
• Act as a hands-on reviewer and troubleshooter: review code, debug complex issues, and improve performance
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and Design to translate business problems into technical solutions
• Use an AI-forward approach to support development and analysis
• Clarify requirements early by asking the right technical questions to reduce downstream risk
• Contribute to engineering roadmaps, milestones, and delivery metrics
• Improve development workflows to increase team velocity and reliability

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems
• Experience designing and implementing complex systems end-to-end
• Strong database modeling skills, including managing transactions and ensuring data integrity in distributed systems
• Strong API design experience
• Deep knowledge of data modeling, normalization, query optimization, and indexing
• Experience with NoSQL, specifically MongoDB
• Experience building REST and/or GraphQL services
• Proficiency in a modern backend language, with Node.js preferred
• Experience shipping reliable cloud-based systems
• Ability to work independently while contributing to broader technical direction
• Cross-functional collaboration experience across Product, QA, and other teams
