About the role

Role Overview

Mercury is hiring Senior Backend Engineers (Product) to grow its product engineering group. The team is pragmatic, product-minded, and focused on building banking/fintech software that’s more delightful and less frustrating than legacy alternatives.

Responsibilities

  • Own products and initiatives: take responsibility on small/medium projects and help shape Mercury’s future.
  • Work autonomously in a close-knit, “startup within a startup” environment.
  • Partner with designers and product leaders to ship customer-focused experiences.
  • Contribute within a Mercury product group such as Banking, Experiences, Expansion, or Risk.
  • Make and articulate architectural decisions, including measuring impact over time.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of backend development experience.
  • Proficiency in SQL and/or eagerness to learn Haskell.
  • User empathy: translate customer perspective into building lovable product experiences.
  • Experience making architecture decisions and evaluating tradeoffs/impact.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with peers and cross-functional stakeholders.

Compensation & Location

  • Role is anywhere in the world, with HQ in San Francisco, CA / New York, NY / Portland, OR, and/or remote within Canada or the United States.
  • Base salary range (target new hire):
    • US: $166,600 – $208,300
    • Canada: CAD 157,400 – CAD 196,800
  • Total rewards include base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.
