Senior Backend Engineer - Payroll - Toronto

Role overview

You’ll join HiBob as a Senior Backend Engineer (Payroll) for a full-remote role based in Toronto. You will help build the company’s Payroll product, owning the full development lifecycle from technical design through coding, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Develop the Payroll product and its unique functionalities
• Own the end-to-end development cycle: technical design → coding → tests → production deployment
• Work in a Continuous Delivery environment with fully automated QA processes
• Build and maintain a microservices architecture, including deployment and monitoring
• Collaborate closely with the product team to deliver customer-facing features

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend/SaaS focus
• Shipped customer-facing features to production and demonstrated ownership
• Strong knowledge of software design and scalable architecture
• Experience with Java and/or Kotlin
• Testing experience including unit testing, TDD, and mocking
• Experience with AWS (or equivalent cloud)
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Must be physically located in the Toronto metropolitan area
