Senior Backend Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer at Oasis, owning and scaling the data architecture behind a health data platform. You’ll ensure Oasis can support millions of products accurately and quickly while integrating lab provider data and keeping science-based insights current.

Responsibilities

• Data architecture & modeling: Own and scale end-to-end data architecture to support a large product catalog (waters, filters, foods, supplements, ingredients, lab tests, health guidelines), including evaluating data model tradeoffs.
• Lab provider integrations: Build and maintain ingestion pipelines to ingest, validate, and reconcile lab test results from multiple providers and keep product data continuously in sync.
• Real-time science updates: Design systems that transform the latest health science, guidelines, and research into product scores and insights in real time.
• Accuracy, monitoring, and performance at scale: Build validation, monitoring, and observability layers to keep data correct and fast as the catalog grows.
• Ownership & product sense: Ship features end-to-end (problem statement → production), propose solutions, and weigh long-term architectural tradeoffs with strong UX/product thinking.
• Collaboration: Communicate clearly via written docs and syncs.

Requirements

• 3–5 years building high-quality production backend applications.
• Deep experience with backend systems and data modeling.
• Experience scaling a data-heavy system (e.g., large catalog, ingestion pipelines, or sync engine) and understanding tradeoffs.
• Ability to design schemas, pipelines, and APIs that ingest from multiple external sources and reconcile data.
• Demonstrated feature ownership from data model through production.
• Strong architectural judgment and high agency in identifying and tackling the right problems.
