Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer focused on building and operating scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems. The role centers on Node.js backend services, cloud infrastructure, and deployment automation.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript)
• Build and maintain microservices and service integrations
• Deploy and operate applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Ensure reliability, performance, and scalability
• Monitor systems using logging and observability tools; set up alerting/monitoring
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable, long-term fixes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust backend solutions
• Enforce security best practices for sensitive data

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Strong CI/CD experience with tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI
• Experience with Docker and containerization
• Familiarity with Kubernetes or other container orchestration
• Solid understanding of SQL and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting
• Strong understanding of security, authentication, and data protection

Nice to Have

• Infrastructure as code: Terraform or CloudFormation
• Event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, SNS/SQS)
• Serverless architectures (e.g., AWS Lambda)
• Knowledge of API gateways and service meshes
• Insurance domain experience (policy administration, quoting, underwriting; rating engines and insurance data flows)
