Senior Backend Engineer (IC6)

Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer (IC6) at Dispel (full remote). You’ll help deliver complex, production-grade systems across software, infrastructure, networking, and security, while influencing engineering direction through technical discussions and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Design, scope, and deliver complex systems spanning backend software, infrastructure, networking, and security.
• Partner with cross-team stakeholders to define requirements and identify problems early.
• Write clear, well-tested code that other engineers can easily understand and reason about.
• Ensure systems meet performance, scalability, and security requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical discussions that shape broader engineering direction.

Requirements

• Deep experience building production-grade APIs and services.
• Strong proficiency in one or more: Python, TypeScript, Go.
• Strong understanding of system reliability, monitoring, and performance optimization.
• Strong knowledge of databases, caches, queues, events, and workers.
• Strong knowledge of network security principles and hardening.
• Strong understanding of cloud execution environments and how architecture decisions affect them.
• Clear communication in person and over team chat.
• Ability to deliver with minimal oversight and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Comfortable using coding agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) as part of daily workflow.
• Willingness to accept failure and feedback, learn, and iterate.
• Experience across multiple layers: application, database, infrastructure, and/or security.
• Hands-on cloud networking experience (e.g., AWS/Azure constructs like VPCs, subnets, security groups, private endpoints).
• Solid understanding of network fundamentals: routing, switching, VPN protocols, DNS, firewalls.

• Experience across multiple teams or roles, bringing breadth to technical judgment.
