About the role
Role Overview
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Solace, you’ll own your product workflow end-to-end—from initial design requirements through deployment. You’ll architect high-quality backend solutions, move quickly, and see your work in production with live users regularly.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build scalable services and APIs powering existing and new web application features.
- Architect and maintain robust backend systems, database models, and infrastructure for the platform.
- Analyze product requirements and deliver production-ready code with a focus on reliability and performance.
- Maintain system health: refactor, improve codebase, and ensure systems are robust and resilient.
- Support end-to-end delivery, including jumping into frontend code when needed to ship features.
- Write clear specs to improve quality and enable stress-free deployment.
- Drive releases to production on a continuous deployment cadence.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners in product and design to improve user experience.
What You Bring
- Startup experience and strong execution bias.
- 5+ years of backend development experience, with some frontend exposure.
- Strong fundamentals in API design, database architecture, and distributed systems.
- Expertise in TypeScript/Node and backend frameworks.
- Comfort contributing to React/frontend work when needed.
- Intuitive understanding of what it takes to build performant, scalable systems.
- Impeccable communication skills and ability to influence product direction.
- Comfortable with ambiguity; you learn from mistakes and take full ownership.
Nice-to-Haves / Stack Context
- Experience using modern backend frameworks and a continuous deployment workflow (implied by role responsibilities).
